Margery Eva Lang Hamilton - Heidi

Heidi, 1934
OIL ON CANVAS, 64 x 70 ½ inches

Lang’ choice of scenes from the Swiss author Johanna Spyri’s Heidi , like in her Hiawatha mural, emphasizes themes of innocence and peace in nature. The young orphan Heidi watches over her goats in a meadow among the Alps, while her friend Peter sits nearby. In a state of unrefined, uncorrupted bliss, Heidi is shielded from the evils of the modern world by the encircling mountains.
